One-Click Exchanges help merchants retain revenue by offering an intelligent exchange option based on the return reason and available inventory.

How One-Click Exchanges work

One-Click Exchanges simplify the process of exchanges by using the shopper’s selected return reason to suggest an exchange. For example, if a shopper selects “Too Big” as their return reason and the next smaller size is available in the inventory, we promote the One-Click Exchange, in addition to all the standard return policies enabled for your shop.

At the time of onboarding, One-Click Exchanges were enabled for your shop by default for the following return reasons:

  • Too big: clicking this option suggests the product variant in the next size down

  • Too small: clicking this option suggests the product variant in the next size up

  • Wrong item: clicking this option suggests a product replacement, i.e. the same product variant the shopper originally purchased

  • Damaged item received: clicking this option suggests a product replacement, i.e. the same product variant the shopper originally purchased

The above returns reasons perform one of the three following One-Click Exchange actions:

  • Suggest the product variant in the next size up

    • Your product variant page must have the exact product variant option “Size” for this action to work

  • Suggest the product variant in the next size down

    • Your product variant page must have the exact product variant option “Size” for this action to work

  • Suggest a replacement for the product variant originally purchased

Note: One-Click Exchanges will only work if “exchanges” are enabled as a return option for your shop and the default return reasons for which One-Click Exchanges are automatically configured have not been overwritten. The size-related actions will only work if your product has “Size” as one of its variants and stock is available at the time of exchange.

If you have deleted or overwritten any of the above One-Click Exchange default return reasons and you would like to reconfigure One-Click Exchanges for your store, contact support with the one-click action you would like to enable and the label for the return reason representing that action.

Overwriting the default One-Click Exchange return reasons

Overwriting an existing default return reason via your Dashboard will replace the label of the return reason but will not change the underlying One-Click Exchange action that may be associated to that reason. If your intention is to keep the original One-Click Exchange action while only changing the label associated with it, then overwriting return reasons works in your favor:

For example, overwriting the default return reason “Too Big” to “Too Loose” will still perform a One-Click Exchange when clicked and suggest to the shopper a product variant in the next size down.

However, if you want to change a default return reason and do not want it associated to its original One-Click Exchange action, you should discard the outdated return reason and add an entirely new one (i.e. do not simply overwrite the existing default return reasons, remove them entirely if you want to remove the One-Click Exchange actions associated with them).

FAQs

This happens because an existing One-Click Exchange return reason in the default reason group was overwritten. To avoid this issue, delete the return reason with the issue and append a new return reason to your default reason group (you can use the same name, as long as you are using a new field box, rather than overwriting an existing one).

See the following troubleshooting questions for One-Click Exchanges:

  • Are exchanges enabled via your dashboard return policies?
  • If exchanging for another size is broken, on your e-commerce platform, is the product variant option for size labeled exactly as “Size”?
  • Does stock exist for the desired product variant for which the shopper is attempting to use One-Click Exchanges?
  • Did you overwrite the default One-Click Exchange-enabled return reason? See more info here.

If none of the above questions resolves your issue, contact support.
